Buttock Implants

As people get older and their skin begins to lose its elasticity hence making it saggy, buttock implants are becoming more and more popular. A majority of those individuals are women who either want to keep their youthful look by tightening up their buttocks or to get the curvy body type of Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. A majority of people who opt for buttock implants get them to tighten and firm their buttocks and to get rid of the saggy excess skin that their many years has bestowed upon them.

For those considering buttock implant surgery, the first step is to consult with a certified plastic surgeon who has a significant amount of experience in performing buttock augmentation surgery. Make sure your expectations and goals for the surgery are revealed during the consultation. Be open and honest as well as realistic with the surgeon you have chosen to perform the surgery. This will help give your surgeon an idea of exactly what you are looking for as well as help boost your confidence knowing that you will be getting exactly what you have portrayed to your surgeon.

What to Expect at your Consultation and How to Prepare for it

Before going for your consultation, it is important to know exactly what you want your buttocks to look like after surgery. Decide how big you want them and how round you want them. If you see pictures in magazines of your idea of the perfect butt for a woman take it with you. During this first visit the surgeon will require you to fill out a complete medical history to make sure you are in good physical condition to have the procedure done. If you are a smoker chances are the surgeon will advise you to quit smoking before having the surgery. The surgeon will also give you detailed information about the surgery, what to expect during surgery, and post-operative measures that you will have to follow.

What Buttock Implant Surgery Entails

Buttock implant surgery is typically performed as an outpatient surgery with general anesthesia being used. The procedure itself can take an hour up to a few hours depending on how drastic of a change you are looking for; on average the surgery can take between two to three hours. During surgery, the surgeon will make an incision about three inches long in the middle of the buttocks which will create a pocket where silicone implants will be placed. Depending on the preference of your surgeon the implant can be inserted either between fat and muscle or in the main muscle in the buttocks. Before your surgeon closes the incision they will make sure that both sides of the buttocks are natural looking and are symmetrical. Scar tissue will develop at the incision area which will hold the implants in place.

Risks of Buttock Implant Surgery

As holds true with any medical procedure there are potential complications and risks that should be considered before making a decision. Some of these risks include:

  1. Infection
  2. Asymmetry
  3. Problems from anesthesia
  4. Excessive bleeding
  5. The possible need for additional surgery

During buttock implant surgery the tissues will be stretched hence the possibility of excessive pain and discomfort is inevitable, even more so if the implants are underneath the muscle. Your surgeon will prescribe an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic after the surgery to help with pain management and to decrease the risk of infection.
